I simply cannot believe it. It is May 1st and we are still barely in the double digits in Ontario. But hey, it is hard to argue with the weather and if it is not cooperating, it is time to employ good old ingenuity.
Gosh! It is still cold out there! To make things even more frustrating, for the last two days we had downpours, which made me bit worried about those seedlings I planted in my open garden beds. Cold frame is doing fantastic thou:
Lettuce, green onions, radish, swiss chard, leeks and spinach with a touch of parsley and oregano. Looking good!
And the spinach is almost ready for picking!
Last week made a trip to Flamborough to pick up row covers to shield my crops in open beds from still harsh nights. And it looks like those are working. It was such a nice surprise to lift the row covers and see that the open beds are finally showing signs of life.
Bed 1: First sign of potato growth!
Bed 2 with arugula and salad greens is also growing nicely.
But a piece de resistance was my mini poly tunnel. Et voila! Built on a raised garden bed this morning will be covered with the floating row covering to generate extra heat this crazy spring. Summer veggies, time to get growing!
